How to choose the right fiber density and volume for sofas, armchairs and upholstered furniture.

Furniture filling has to solve two problems at once: feel comfortable to the touch, and hold its shape under repeated load — people sit on a sofa or armchair dozens of times a day. Different parts of a furniture piece call for different fiber.

Cushions and seating

For seating and cushions that get compressed daily, a balance of softness and resilience matters most. 3D and 7D are the optimal choice: soft enough for comfort, resilient enough to spring back quickly after every use.

Top soft layer

If the construction includes a separate top layer that directly touches the body — a decorative cushion cover, for example — using the softer 1D fiber here is worth it. It gives a more premium feel on contact.

Frame and base layers

For structural base layers where volume and load resistance matter more than softness, 15D is the right fit. It's the most affordable option and provides the structural firmness the construction needs.
